Introduction Most children in our society grow up in a safe and protected environment. Sometimes, however, a child may be harmed or mistreated in a way that is abusive. All children have a right to be protected from harm and all adults have a role to play in ensuring that our children are protected and safe. Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and protecting them from harm from others is everyone’s responsibility: families, neighbours, professionals and members of communities all therefore play a vital role in protecting children.
