Midlothian Council operates a Taxicard Scheme which gives concessionary travel on taxis for mobility impaired people in Midlothian. The Taxicard scheme is aimed at Midlothian residents who are unable to travel on local bus services. Maybe people find it difficult to get on a bus because they have a physical disability, use a walking aid, are registered blind or it's just age that's letting them down. The Midlothian Taxicard could be the answer to keeping that bit of independence, giving confidence to get out of the house. The Taxicard can be used for any purpose - visiting friends, going shopping, keeping a hospital appointment etc. Each Taxicard holder can take up to 104 single taxi journeys each year, effectively that's one roundtrip per week. The Taxicard can be used at any time, day or night, 365 days a year. Most taxi operators now have vehicles that can accommodate people sitting in their wheelchairs - remember to check when booking. Use the Taxicard to go as far as you like, but remember that the maximum discount on each journey is £3 - you pay the rest. How do you book your taxi? Contact one of the twenty taxi operators in Midlothian and Edinburgh that accept the Midlothian Taxicard. New Taxicard holders will have a list sent to them with their first Taxicard, or you can find the latest list of taxis that accept the Taxicard in the Midlothian Travelmap. Thanks to a special deal between Midlothian Council and First Scotrail, holders of Midlothian Taxicards can travel free of charge on train journeys wholly within the Lothians [East Lothian, City of Edinburgh, West Lothian]. If you think you might qualify for a Midlothian Taxicard, please contact the Travel Team on 0131 561 5442 or send an e-mail message [including "Taxicard" in the title] to ptu@midlothian.gov.uk to ask for an application form. A form will be sent out by return post. |
