Welcome to Midlothian Midlothian Council provides a wide range of services for around 80,000 people living south of Edinburgh. Bordered by Edinburgh to the north, East Lothian to the east and the Scottish Borders to the south, Midlothian is home to a variety of thriving communities and industries. With a strong history in mining and papermaking, today's Midlothian is building on that heritage by leading developments in retail, science and tourism. The Straiton Retail Park, near Loanhead, is one of Scotland's most successful shopping destinations while Roslin was home to Dolly the Sheep, the world's first cloned mammal, and is home to a number of thriving biotechnology enterprises. The Midlothian Snowsports Centre is one of a number of tourism destinations in Midlothian, ranging from the Pentland Hills Regional Park, to the Scottish Mining Museum in Newtongrange, to Roslin Glen Country Park, to Vogrie Country Park and Golf Course to the east of the county. Other attractions include the Rosslyn Chapel, a 15th century church linked to the Scottish Knights Templar which has recently featured in Tom Hank's The Da Vinci Code, and the original bestseller by novelist Dan Brown. Communities in Midlothian include Penicuik in the west, close to the Pentland Hills Regional Park, Roslin, Loanhead, Bonnyrigg, Lasswade, Dalkeith, Newtongrange, Gorebridge and Pathhead in the east of the county, close to the border with East Lothian Council. We hope you will quickly find what you need as you navigate around this site.
