The Borders' Railway project is working towards a railway to serve Midlothian and the Scottish Borders by late 2013 or early 2014. New railway stations in Midlothian will be created at Shawfair, Eskbank, Newtongrange and Gorebridge.

Twelve buses an hour link Sheriffhall Park and Ride with the ERI and Edinburgh city centre daytime Mon-Fri, with more buses at peak times, and fewer in the evenings and at weekends. Parking is FREE at all times.
