Community Learning & Development has a key role in the Council's work in the communities of Midlothian.
We provide a wide range of courses and activities throughout Midlothian, mainly through our locally-based Community Learning Centres.

Community Learning & Development offers a wide range of lifelong learning opportunities throughout Midlothian and encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to get into learning.
We offer many groups, courses and activities for children and young people, including Badminton, Guitar Workshops, Mountain Biking, Horse Riding, Drama, Boxing, Pavement Art, Skiing, Digital Music, Street Banners, Wall Climbing and Nature Workshops.
In addition, numerous adult learners attend our learning options. Our mainstream programme of daytime and evening courses includes such diverse subjects as Art, Computing, Languages, Family History, Tai Chi, Creative Writing, Local History and Aromatherapy.

Community Learning & Development recognises that many agencies can contribute to learning and development, and should work together to be as effective as possible.
We cooperate very closely with other Council sections. Amongst our most popular activities are the Computing classes, aimed mainly at beginners, which we provide jointly with the Libraries.
Other examples of joint activities are the community development projects which we run in conjunction with the Regeneration section and voluntary sector partners.
Indeed we work in partnership with many external groups and we assist many local organisations and community projects throughout Midlothian.

Community Learning & Development follows a specific strategy, identifying key priorities and using a distinctive approach to achieve its aims.
We're organised in a particular team structure and deploy a range of staff roles to extend our service across the breadth of the community.
