Qualifications in Computing

PC passport logo

This year Community Learning & Development will be offering PC Passport, a qualification developed by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

This qualification is perfect for students who want to learn how to use computers or to improve their existing knowledge.

It is flexible and allows learners to start at the most appropriate point for them.

It is offered at three levels:

  • Beginner
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced.

The Beginner course is designed to help the absolute novice. The Intermediate qualification is for more competent users and focuses on the key computer skills required in the modern workplace. The Advanced qualification is for more experienced computer users.

All the basic computer skills of surfing the internet, sending e-mails, word-processing and spreadsheets are taught and developed.

There are no exams in PC Passport. Knowledge and understanding are assessed using objective questions; practical skills are assessed through observation and/or practical exercises.

On successful completion of a course you will receive a certificate confirming your new skills.

These basic courses normally do not lead to certification.
