Award Winners 2010
Some of the participants in the Celebration of Learning 2010 are shown above.
In previous years the annual Celebration of Learning focussed solely on celebrating the achievements of adult learners who had participated in a range of adult learning opportunities provided by CLD and its partners.
This year, for the first time, the Celebration was extended to include participants who have been involved in community groups and activities, as well as young people who have taken part in a wide range of activities from youth participation to locally based youth clubs, activities and courses.
This means that we celebrated achievement in its widest sense and, more importantly, the impact that this involvement and learning has had for the individual, their families and their communities.
There were some excellent examples of the range of activities and opportunities that CLD and its partners offer or are involved in.
The meeting also heard from some of the participants about the learning journeys they have made in a short period of time and the difference that this has made to their lives.
Finally, the event celebrated individual achievement in each of three categories:
- Adult learner of the year
Viki O’Donnell
- Young learner of the year
Sean Jenkin
- Community capacity builder of the year
Penicuik Community First Responders

Footnote
Would you like to get back into learning or find out what’s on offer locally?
Midlothian’s Adult Learning Programme is distributed to all households and libraries.
We offer a wide range of lifelong learning opportunities and encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to get into learning.
The learning opportunities which we provide enable people to brush up on old skills and learn new ones.
Our courses and classes are held locally in friendly Community Learning Centres, making it easy for people to get into learning without having to travel too far from home.
Our main programme of daytime and evening classes starts in September and again in January.
