Welcome
Thank you for expressing an interest in fostering children and young people for Midlothian Council. This website provides information about the fostering service, why we need foster carers, the types of foster care we offer, the assessment process, the support offered and the expectations of foster carers. In 1999 foster carers in Midlothian were caring for 34 children and young people. By 2009 that figure had risen to 75. In addition a number of Midlothian children had to be placed far from their home environments as we were unable to place them with local foster carers. We require a range of carers with various backgrounds and life experiences which can meet the needs of the children needing to be placed in foster homes. Becoming a Foster Carer for Midlothian Council is not for everyone but it may be for you. Please read on and find out more about fostering with your local Council.
