We provide two residential units, Midfield and Gorebridge, which provide high quality residential living and care for some of Midlothian’s most vulnerable children and young people youngsters who, for a variety of reasons, require to be ‘looked after’ and accommodated away from home. Children and young people require to be looked after away from home for a variety of reasons, usually involving family, educational, and behavioural and/or social difficulties.
Midfield is situated in the Polton area and caters for eight children and young people. Gorebridge Unit, in Gorebridge, caters for four young people. Referrals are made by Midlothian’s Children and Families Team, the Family Placement Team and through the children’s hearing system. We also provide an “Outreach” Service to up to fifteen children and their families within the community who are experiencing difficulties.
Outreach involvement is negotiated on a contractual and individual need basis, with the focus being to avoid admission to residential or foster care or to sustain an existing placement.
