Due to the demand for advice, information and representation on all aspects of the Benefit System the Social Work department of Midlothian Council employ three Welfare Rights Officers (WROs) to assist people with Benefit matters.
The Welfare Rights Team offers assistance to the general public regarding problems with the complexity of the benefit system. They offer impartial advice on:
- All Social Security Benefits
- Child Tax Credits
- Working Tax Credit
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- Housing Issues and other related social issues.
They provide help with completion of claim forms to appealing decisions and representation at Social Security Appeals and Social Security Commissioners. They represent at:
- Disability Living Allowance Appeals
- Attendance Allowance Appeals
- Incapacity Benefit Appeals
- Industrial Injury Benefit Appeals
- Income Support/JSA/Child Benefit Appeals
- Housing Benefit/Council Tax Benefit Appeals
You can contact the Team on (0131) 271 3780 or alternatively attend the weekly drop in advice sessions alternating every Thursday between The Social Work Centre, 4 Clerk St, Loanhead and Buccleuch House, Buccleuch St, Dalkeith. The surgeries are from 9.30am -12.30pm. House visits can be arranged for people who are housebound.
The Team liase closely with other Midlothian Council Departments and outside Agencies to promote the take-up of welfare benefits and promote Income Maximisation for the people of Midlothian. |
