Midlothian Registration Office

The main purpose of the Registration Office is to provide a service regarding the registration of Births, Stillbirths, Deaths, Marriages, and Civil Partnerships  and enquiries relating to these topics.

The Fee for a full extract of Birth, Death, Marriage or Civil Partnership requested at the time of registration is £9.00  After registration, but within the current year, the same fee applies.  If requesting an extract, registered outwith the current year, a £5.00 search fee is added, increasing the fee for the extract to £14.00 but if a customer presents an abbreviated Certificate or Full Extract of that entry, and seeks to purchase an Extract of the same entry, the search fee of £5.00 will not apply.

We can offer a priority same day service for extracts at a fee of £5.00

Civil Marriages and Civil Partnerships can be performed in the Registration Office or any of the current eighteen approved venues in Midlothian. Ceremonies at these venues have proved to be extremely popular.

Whether the event is to be held in one of the stately homes, historic castles or hotels, Midlothian can provide the services of a registrar to conduct the ceremony.

A deposit of £50.00 for a Ceremony in the Registration Office together with the booking fee should be paid at the time of booking and a deposit of £100.00 should be paid for a Ceremony at a Venue together with the booking fee at the time of booking.  Please note these fees are non-refundable.

Marriage and Civil Partnership Rehearsal

If you feel that you would benefit from a rehearsal of your civil ceremony before the big day itself, this can be arranged for an additional fee:

During office hours in our Midlothian Ceremony Room - £40.00 or outwith office hours at your ceremony venue - £100.00

N.B.    Every effort will be made to ensure that the Celebrant who is to perform your Civil Ceremony is in attendance at your rehearsal.
