Space Hop Hop into space this summer with the summer reading challenge for children aged 4 to 12. Read six books to win a medal, a certificate, a free swimming voucher for Midlothian leisure centres and have your name entered into a prize draw. You could win a fabulous space science kit or a 3D solar system. You can join Space Hop at any library until 28th August. Teen Graphic If you're 12 to 15 years old, look for the Teen Graphic collection of graphic novels in Midlothian libraries this summer. You can take a review postcard and tell others what books you liked. Meet the Author Graphic novel writer, David Bishop. Scottish crime writer Karen Campbell visits Bonnyrigg Library on Wednesday 18 August at 7.00pm. "A former police officer, Karen, won the Best New Scottish Writer Award in 2009. Her debut novel, described as 'gritty as hell, shot through with black humour'‚ weaves personal insights and experiences to explore life behind the uniform - and the choices women make." Unlike the Edinburgh Book Festival this event is FREE!
Writing Competition Tyne & Esk Writers with Midlothian and East Lothian Library Services is running a writing competition open to anyone over the age of 16 who lives, studies or works in Midlothian or East Lothian. The comptetion closes on Friday 20th August. Writer of the year will receive £100 and the Alison Kinnaird trophy. Four winners will receive a £25 book token and four runners up will receive a £10 book token. Ask at your local library for an entry form. Looking for a good read?
