"Springtime in Midlothian" photo competition

We are looking for a photograph which illustrates Midlothian in Spring.
Open to amateur photographers of all ages, the "Springtime in Midlothian" digital photography competition will run until 31 May.
See your photo in print!
The winning photograph will be printed in the July edition of "Midlothian News" and posted on the homepage of the Flickr Group "Springtime in Midlothian". It will also be featured in the Midlothian Council website:
How to enter
Entrants must take a digital photograph with the theme "Springtime in Midlothian" and have a Flickr account.
Judging will take place on Friday 1 June.

Rules
- All photographs entered must have been taken in Midlothian, Scotland
- All entrants should be amateur photographers (ie you are not paid for a job as a photographer)
- Entrants can be any age
- You may enter up to 3 photographs
- Closing date: Thursday 31 May 2012
- Theme: Springtime in Midlothian
- Flickr Tag: Please add the tag "Midlothian" to the photograph
- All photographs should be 'family friendly'
- Photos should be at least 1024pixels on the longest side
- By entering your images in this group you agree to grant us royalty-free non-exclusive use of your material in any way we want and in any media, most likely the Midlothian council website, www.midlothian.gov.uk and the "Midlothian News" newspaper. However, you'll still own the copyright to everything you contribute, and we'll aim to publish your name alongside anything published wherever possible. Ageing Well summer health walks - Loanhead

Ageing Well summer health walks in and around Loanhead every Tuesday evening lasting just over an hour.
Every week
Ageing well Loanhead summer health walks leave from Loanhead Leisure Centre on Tuesdays at 18.30.
They are led by fully qualified volunteer walk leaders and last for just over an hour. Just turn up on the night wearing appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear.
Take those first steps to a healthier lifestyle and meet new people. No costs involved.

Primary Poetry competition

'Helping you recycle more' poetry competition for Midlothian Primary School pupils.
Submission guidelines
- Think about how to explain the new recycling service to someone new to this area.
- Include the title of your poem in your submission.
- The poem could be a rhyme or it could be acrostic. Why not even make it a song or a rap?
- Poems can be handwritten or typed. Handwritten entries must be clearly legible.
- Pictures / images can be submitted with a poem but will not be considered as part of the judging process.
Entry categories
- Primary school class entry from Primary 1 - Primary 4
- Individual entry from pupil in Primary 1 - Primary 4
- Individual entry from pupil in Primary 5 - Primary 7
How to enter
- Submissions must be supplied with a completed entry form which should be filled out in black ink and be clearly legible.
- Entry form (PDF)
- The organisers regret that they will not be able to return entries once submitted.
- The closing date for entries is Friday 8 June 2012. Entries must be received on or before this date to qualify for judging.

By entering into this competition, entrants agree to abide by the following terms and conditions:
- Entries must be received by 8 June 2012
- Individuals must be in full time education in Midlothian to qualify for entry
- The decision of the judging panel will be final
- Winning entrants must be willing to participate in publicity activities

By entering a poem into the competition, you affirm it is your own work and not that of a third party obtained with or without permission. Copyright will remain with the writer but Midlothian Council claims the right to reproduce entries and to use them in publicity material to promote the recycling services offered by Midlothian Council.
Ageing well summer walks - Mayfield

Wednesday health walk for the over 50's organised by volunteer walk leaders from the Ageing Well Project.
Every week
Ageing Well health walks leave from Mayfield Leisure Centre on Wednesdays at 18.30.
They are run by fully qualified walk leaders and last for just over an hour. Come along and keep healthy whilst meeting new people. Please ensure you wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear.

Loanhead Health Walks
2 May 2012
Health walk day suitable for all and led by fully qualified Ageing Well walk leaders. 30 minute and 1 hour walks available.
Three walks are available:
- 10:30 - 30 minute walk
- 11:30 - 1 hour walk
- 14:00 - 30 minute walk
Come along to any of the walks then enjoy a nice cup of tea and chat afterwards.
If there is enough interest we hope to run a weekly walk from the Miners Club in the near future.
