Your new recycling collection service
Helping you recycle more
In 2005, only 5% of the waste produced by households in Midlothian was recycled.
However since the introduction of the kerbside recycling collection service, you are now recycling around 50% of your waste.
Unfortunately this means that half of your waste is still being sent to landfill. Putting all this waste into landfill also means that valuable natural resources are being lost.
Improving your service
Many residents have asked us to collect more materials for recycling so we have carefully considered ways to help you recycle more.
From 1 October 2012 you will be able to recycle cartons, plastic pots, tubs, punnets and trays, aerosols cans, and large pieces of cardboard as part of your kerbside recycling collection service.
Making these improvements to your kerbside recycling collection service will significantly increase recycling rates in Midlothian.
It will allow us to:
- Work towards ambitious Scottish Government recycling targets
- Reduce the amount of your waste we send to landfill
- Implement service efficiencies
- Include more materials in recycling collections in future
What does this mean for you?
- It is even easier for you to recycle conveniently at home
- You'll have the opportunity to recycle more materials
- You'll have more room in your grey wheeled bin
A consultation on these proposals was run between February and April 2012.
