The Penicuik to Dalkeith Walkway

The Penicuik to Dalkeith Walkway is a 9.5mile route passing through many of Midlothian's historic towns and villages along the former Edinburgh to Peebles railway line. The gentle gradient and nature of the route allows easy access for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

  • Free car parking at Valleyfield and Harpers Brae, Penicuik and Rosewell
  • Tarred surfacing from Rosewell to Dalkeith, whin surface from Rosewell to Penicuik
  • Route signage following Regional Cycle Route 73 by SUSTRANS
  • Picnic sites at Roslin Glen, Lea Farm and Rosewell
  • Information panels and route leaflet

  • Special events and activities organised the Ranger Service. Pick up a Lothian's and Borders Outdoor Diary
  • Free resource boxes are available to all, from the Ranger Service, full of useful equipment to pond dip, mini beast hunt or to explore the nature of the site.
  • Free curricular based environmental education activities for schools and groups lead and organised by the Ranger Service

Buses

Services travel to Penicuik, Roslin, Bonnyrigg, Lasswade and Dalkeith from where the walkway can be accessed on foot.
