Green Networks

Central Scotland Green Network

View of Midlothian's landscape

Green Networks are not a new idea but have been given greater importance as a result of the Scottish Government's decision to identify the proposed Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN) as one of 14 National Developments. The whole of Midlothian is part of the CSGN area.

What is the Central Scotland Green Network project about?

Central Scotland Green Network will deliver a step change in environmental quality, woodland cover and recreational opportunities. It will make Central Scotland a more attractive place to live, to do business and visit. It will help to absorb carbon dioxide, enhance biodiversity and promote active travel and healthier lifestyles.

The green networks will form a visible attractive and accessible network of green and open spaces and countryside within and around our towns. The green networks will cross Council boundaries and be interconnected across the whole of Central Scotland.

It is intended that Green Network policies will be included in the emerging Strategic and Local Development plans covering Midlothian.

How will Green Network projects be delivered?

Delivery of Green Network projects in south east Scotland, including Midlothian, will be delivered through the Lothians and Fife Green Network Partnership (LFGNP) based at Swanston, through the work of Midlothian Council and local environment and community groups.

Further information can be found on the Central Scotland Green Network website and the Lothians and Fife Green Network Partnership website.
