As part of the Dalkeith Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) a shop front design guide has been produced. The guide was launched in March 2011.

This document provides shop keepers and building owners with advice and guidance on improving their shop and signage. 

Is my shop eligible for a shop front improvement grant?

Midlothian Council has been involved in a number of shopfront improvement schemes.

Currently the Dalkeith THI and CARS is able to offer grants to improve certain historic buildings within the boundary of the THI and CARS. In addition to repairs to building facades, improvement grants for the repair of traditional shop fronts are also available.
