Borders Railway Project
Railways in Midlothian
Midlothian has no passenger rail system to help to constrain traffic growth and promote modal shift.
The Council is working jointly with Transport Scotland, Scottish Borders Council, and City of Edinburgh Council to re-open the old Waverley Route, now known as The Borders Railway, to provide passenger links between Edinburgh and Tweedbank stopping at Shawfair, Eskbank, Newtongrange and Gorebridge in Midlothian, and Stow, Galashiels and Tweedbank in the Borders.
It is hoped that passenger services will be running by the end of 2014.
