About Development Management
The purpose of Development Management is to ensure that development proposals within Midlothian have a high standard of design and are in the interest of local residents. This is achieved through:
- Processing of planning applications, listed building consents and express advertisement consents
- Planning enforcement and development monitoring
The Development Management section also provides advice and information on development within Midlothian:
- Formal pre-application advice giving an indication on how a proposal would be looked at in terms of the planning policy. This is given in writing as a response to a formal pre-application enquiry
- Informal planning advice, generally given over the telephone
- General enquiries on development within Midlothian
Recent Changes To Planning Legislation
Thinking of making changes to your house or flat?
The Scottish Government has introduced new householder permitted development rights on 6 February 2012. Small alterations and extensions may be carried out to your property without the need to submit an application for planning permission. Please note that there will still be certain restrictions relating to conservation areas and listed buildings.
Full details of the new permitted development rights can be found on the Scottish Government Website.
