About business rates
If you own a business anywhere in the UK, it is likely that you will have to pay business rates (officially called national non-domestic rates); these are the way in which businesses and other occupiers of non-domestic property contribute towards the costs of local authority services.
Although we collect business rates, the amount is set by The Assessor at the Lothian Valuation Joint Board.
Although Midlothian Council collects business rates, the amount is set by The Assessor at the Lothian Valuation Joint Board. The Board is responsible for compiling and maintaining a Valuation Roll for every non-domestic property situated within the Authority.
Business rates are calculated and charged from the information contained in the Valuation Roll.
