Snowsports for schools
Special needs
More and more children with special needs are being encompassed in main stream schools and participating in main stream activities. We can accommodate many of these children and a lot of our instructors have a great deal of experience in teaching and coaching methods relating to their needs.
On many occasions the individual may well be able to participate as part of a class structure, however, there are occasions when conditions of safety may necessitate a one-to-one instructor/pupil ratio.
Bi-ski
One-to-one instructor/pupil ratio - afternoons only
We are now fortunate to have a junior bi-ski at the Centre courtesy of the Radio Forth, 'Help a Child Appeal' and the South East of Scotland Schools Snowsports Association (SESSSA).
The bi-ski is a type of "sit ski", which allows individuals with limited movement of the limbs to experience snowsports. The bi-ski is guided by one of our qualified members of staff.
In some cases (when the individual has control of the upper body) the individual is eventually able to guide the ski on their own accord with the use of outriggers.
The use of the bi-ski requires an instructor on a one-to-one basis. The cost of this is £24.90 per 1½hrs. This represents over half the price of a private lesson.
In the last two years most of the Regional Education Departments have covered the cost of this service. Please check with your Director of Education so that we can arrange invoicing.
Please give prior notice of special needs requirements before booking.
