Junior Ski Schools

Juniors can learn and progress through our graded levels while making new friends at five-week weekend lesson blocks or during school holidays in our week-long holiday programmes.

For ages 6-17 years

Standards

Please read the information below to help determine which level is most suitable for your child.

Mini course

This course has been carefully tuned to the needs of 6 and 7 year old beginners. It is not suitable for children under these ages.

Aim: To attain Level 1.

Beginner

Applicants should be complete beginners or may have completed one beginners open class. This is not suitable for skiers with more experience. Applicants must be 8 years or over.

Aim: To attain Level 2.

Snowplough Turns

This is the natural progression for children who have completed a mini course. Alternatively, it is ideal for children who can control their speed using a snowplough but cannot yet do snowplough turns.

Aim: To attain Level 3.

Ski Surfer

For 6-8 year olds who have quickly come through the mini and snowplough classes. This has been designed to develop edge control, expand the variety of arcs and rhythm of snowplough turns and improve fluidity. The teaching tactics applied are specifically aimed to offer fun and skill development to this age group.

Aim: To attain Surfer Certificate

Plough Parallel

Children should be able to confidently snowplough turn from Path 5 (top of Tow Slope) and have had sufficient 'miles under their feet' to be fluid and skilled enough to adopt varying arcs changing edge, pressure and rhythm to achieve this.

Aim: To attain Level 4

Mountain Mini

This course has been specially designed for children aged 10 and under who possess a certificate at Plough Parallel level. It encourages improvement in the personal performance and technique of the more able young skier with an emphasis on fun.

Aim: To Attain Mountain Mini Certificate

Basic Parallel

Applicants should be able to execute plough parallel turns, side slipping and swing to the hill.

Aim: To attain Level 5

Parallel

Applicants should be able to execute basic parallel turns (with or without hop). Short swings will be introduced.

Aim: To attain Level 6

Advanced

This course is designed for children who can already perform parallel turns with pole plant. Short swings, step turns and skiing through slalom courses will be covered. There will be an emphasis on skiing on the steep section of the slope.

Aim: To attain Level 7

Introduction to Carving

Finished Level 7 Ski School? Do you want to learn how to get everything you can out of your skis but don't want to go into race training? Then have an 'Introduction to Carving'.

Carving is the modern and fun way to ski today.

With improvements in equipment and technology in skis, carving teaches you how to get the best out of your equipment and yourself. Introduction to carving will allow you to learn how to get greater control on steeper sections of a slope and increase your confidence and ability.
