Local history societies are run entirely by enthusiasts who are interested in the history and heritage of their area. Members will try to help you if you have a question about their area.

Most of these societies hold regular public meetings with talks of local interest. Midlothian Local Studies compiles an annual list of these.
Local history societies also organise outings and other events, and are active in helping to preserve local history and heritage. New and active members are always welcome.
