How to pay your Council Tax
By direct debit
Payment by this simple, safe and convenient method is recommended to you if you have a bank account.

Pay online
You can pay online using the council's online payment system. To make use of this service you need to have a debit or credit card, and a note of your Council Tax number.
You can get your Council Tax number from your Council Tax payment card or Council Tax bill. Your Council Tax number is 9 digits long.
By telephone using a debit or credit card
You can pay your Council Tax by telephone using a debit or credit card. This is an automated service and is available 24/7, 365 days a year. You will not be charged if you use a Debit Card to make a payment, however you will be charged £2.50 for Credit Card payments.

At any Pay Point or Payzone
Use your payment card to pay wherever you see the PayPoint or Payzone logo (in convenience stores, newsagents, supermarkets and service stations).
By post
You can pay your Council Tax by post using cheques or postal orders. Cheques or postal orders should be made payable to Midlothian Council and sent to:

Please ensure that your name, address and Council Tax number, are written clearly on the back of your cheque.
Cash should not be sent by post.

You can pay Council Tax in person at our Dalkeith office.

Please take your Council Tax payment card or bill with you when you make your payment and ask the cashier for a receipt. Payments can be made by:

At your local Post Office
To pay Council Tax at your local post office you will need to be issued with a payment card, which you will need to take with you each time you make a payment. You will not be charged by the Post Office for this service.
