Absent voting

Absent voting is voting by post or by proxy. You must first be registered to vote.

Postal voting

Once a person has registered, a ballot paper will be sent to an address of their choice before the election.

All they have to do is mark their vote on each of the ballot papers and return them before the poll closes on polling day.

Proxy voting

Voters can appoint a person to vote on their behalf if they are unable to attend the polling station. This is voting by Proxy.

How to apply for absent voting

To register a person to vote by post or apply to vote by proxy, contact the Election Registration Officer (ERO) or download the relevant form from the Lothian Valuation Joint Board website:
