Access Officer Service
What is the Access Officer Service?
All Midlothian Schools have services which support children and young people with Additional Support Needs.
The Access Officer helps enable pupils with a range of physical and sensory difficulties to access their environment and the school curriculum.
The Access Officer liaises with Property Services for the necessary adaptations to make the school safe and inclusive eg hygiene rooms, height adjustable surfaces for Home Economics and Craft and Design Technology, safe Fire Evacuation, sourcing, ordering and matching specialist equipment.
The Access Officer provides, from the specialist knowledge base of Occupational Therapy, a service to children and young people in supporting them in accessing the curriculum.
The Access Officer provides training and advice on pupil specific moving and handling issues within school.
