Scottish Universities compete at Snowsports Centre

Midlothian Snowsports Centre at Hillend is hosting the Scottish Universities Dryslope Championships on 5 November 2011.

The competitions are split into two disciplines, racing and freestyle. Racing includes Giant Slalom, Dual Slalom and team Dual Slalom for skiers and boarders. The competitors will be making full use of speed on the slopes, especially the head-to-head dual races.

The freestyle competitions come next. Firstly Big Air on the jump slope with the best trick taking the win. The slope is then set up with boxes and rails for Rail Jam, where riders must perform their best grind tricks to win. Slopestyle rounds of the competition part of the day, bringing together element of big air and rail jam to challenge the riders.

Councillor Wilma Chalmers, Midlothian Council cabinet member, said: "The Scottish Universities Championships is a showcase for talented student skiers and snowboarders to compete at a very high level against their peers. We are delighted to have this prestigious event back at Midlothian Snowsports Centre for 2011."

Next weekend the slopes play host to the British Universities Dryslope Championships (BUDS) on 11 and 12 November.
