We have approved a new strategy for procuring goods and services.
Improving procurement arrangements is a major part of our business transformation plans over the coming years.
Working hard to be as efficient as possible and to get the most out of the money we spend on services and goods is a key way to protect frontline services.
This procurement work is expected to save £1.2 m by March 2014.
However, the new arrangements will not just bring financial savings. They will also impact on the council's key objectives such as conserving and improving Midlothian's environment, delivering responsive and effective services and maximising business opportunities.
Council Leader Councillor Derek Milligan said: "Making sure we procure the right goods, at the right time, in the right quantity, from the right place, at the right price, from the right supplier, is crucial at a time when money is tighter than ever.
"This strategy gives us all the tools we need to achieve this."
