A new leader and depute leader have been elected for Midlothian Council.

Councillor Bob Constable is now the leader, with Councillor Owen Thompson the deputy following a meeting of the SNP-independent controlled council in Dalkeith.

Councillor Constable said:"I feel very privileged to have been elected to the leadership of this historic council.  I shall endeavour to the best of my abilities to justify the trust placed in me.  I intend my leadership to be inclusive across the political divide and will always listen to ideas and suggestions wherever they come from."

Councillor Thompson said: "I have worked with Bob for a number of years now and relish the opportunity for us to take forward the policy agenda our party set out in May's election.  Bob and I are looking forward to the challenges we will face in moving the council forward."
