We have responded to reports in the media that Sainsbury's has decided not to open a proposed new supermarket on the site of the former First Bus depot in Dalkeith.
A council spokesperson said: "We are continuing our work to ensure that Dalkeith remains a great location to do business. Part of this work is attracting further investment to the town centre - on top of the £1.2 million already invested in Dalkeith High Street through the Dalkeith THI/CARS scheme.
"We've known about the Sainsbury decision for some time. It was only ever one of a number of approaches and initiatives we've been exploring to assist in the regeneration of Dalkeith and work on these other projects is continuing to move forward. We hope to be in a position to make an announcement on the future of the former First Bus depot site in due course."
