Investigations are still ongoing as to the cause of subsidence on the A6106 at Lugton Brae in Dalkeith.
A special ground investigator is expected to finish on site at the end of this week. A report will then be drawn up about why the road has subsided and what repairs are required.
It is thought heavy rain was a contributing factor.
The road is expected to remain closed for a number of weeks. The diversion along Melville Gate Road then along the B6392 and A6094 remains in place.
