Road closed and primary school shut because of severe weather

Published on

The A766 is closed in both directions between the A702 and the Silverburn junction because of subsidence. Traffic is being diverted along Hopelands Road.

Meanwhile, St Andrew's Primary School in Gorebridge is closed due to a power cut after wind and rain battered the county overnight.

The weather has also left 162 homes in Gorebridge without power. Scottish Power says it aims to have power restored by 16:00.

Residents and drivers are being asked to continue to take special care when travelling today as a Met Office yellow warning for heavy rain remains in place.

Gusts of up to 43mph are expected in the early afternoon although the winds should die down later in the day.

Our teams are out clearing roads of branches and some debris. Two trees were blown down overnight at Vogrie Road. The road remains open.

Our leisure centres and Midlothian Snowsports Centre remain open. All libraries, except Danderhall, are closed this morning as usual.

If you have a power cut telephone Scottish Power's SP Energy Networks on 0845 272 7999.

If you need to contact the council you can do so on 0131 663 7211.
