Lugton Brae in Dalkeith is now open to all traffic except heavy goods vehicles.
The road had been closed except for local access and to public transport.
This was to stop drivers using it as an unofficial diversion when the A6106 closed in July because of subsidence.
A 20mph speed limit is in place.
