Midlothian Council is urging local residents to take advantage of our Free Insulation Offer before grants for loft and cavity wall insulation become a thing of the past.

Households throughout Midlothian are entitled to free cavity wall and loft insulation as part of a scheme funded through the Scottish Government's Universal Home Insulation Scheme (UHIS). Loft insulation can save households up to £175 per year in energy bills, while cavity wall insulation can save up to £135. Wherever you live in Midlothian you can now have these measures installed absolutely free. To register an interest in the scheme, call the Energy Saving Scotland hotline on 0800 512 012.
Some local residents have reported visits from companies who are incorrectly claiming to be part of the current free insulation offer, which is being delivered exclusively by our appointed installer Carillion Energy Services in partnership with the social enterprise Changeworks.
We're reminding residents to make sure that the person on your doorstep is working for Carillion or Changeworks - as with all doorstep callers it is important to check their ID and, if in any doubt, verify it by calling the advice centre for free on 0800 512 012 to confirm that they're meant to be working in the area.
Whether it's home insulation on offer or something else entirely, any genuine doorstep caller will be more than happy to show you ID and arrange to call back later - giving you time to do a quick background check.
Cllr Jim Bryant, Cabinet Member for Property & Facilities, said: "I encourage all local householders to take advantage of our free insulation scheme - you could save up to £300 a year in energy bills. Our funding is being allocated on a first-come-first-served basis - so be sure to apply soon to avoid missing out."
Cllr Bryant continued: "We have teams of assessors operating door-to-door across the county to encourage people to sign up to the scheme. My advice to householders is to be certain that the person on your doorstep is from either Carillion or Changeworks - if you're in any doubt, you can phone the free hotline on 0800 512 012 to make sure."
To apply to have free insulation installed in your home, you can call Energy Saving Scotland's Advice Centre on 0800 512 012 - where you can book a free no obligation insulation survey over the phone, and receive a visit from the appointed contractor at a time and date that suits you.
