Midlothian's modern business locations set standards for flexibility and affordability and have provided beneficial new uses for land released by the demise of traditional industries.
New business parks and industrial estates have recently been developed by the private and public sectors, bringing a variety of quality commercial and industrial premises and sites to the area. For information on sites or property within Midlothian please contact: John Beveridge.
Midlothian has a vibrant and competitive local economy. Previously dominated by traditional industries such as coal mining, it has been radically transformed in recent years into a key centre of Scotland's knowledge economy. Indeed, Midlothian has emerged as a UK, European and International centre for the developing biotechnology and life sciences sector and has a world-famous reputation for research, development and production.
Midlothian Council has worked with key public and private sector partners to encourage the growth of this sector with a range of initiatives.
An integrated package of business support for both start-up and established businesses has been developed by Midlothian Council and its enterprise partners. Support is tailored to the needs of each individual business covering a range of issues from sources of financial assistance, marketing, training, environmental management, information technology and exporting.
The Midlothian Business Development Programme (MBDP) plays a central role in business assistance, providing a comprehensive programme of business advice, loan and grant assistance designed to encourage innovation, new business development and growth.
These business development services are provided in what aims to be a seamless service delivery with partnership working between key players such as Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian, Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board, Midlothian Enterprise Trust and Midlothian Chamber of Commerce.
