Health and safety training - NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
-
Introduction
The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety provides a broad understanding of the general health and safety issues that affect all types of organisation and enables risks to be managed effectively. As well as covering a range of workplace hazards and methods of control, it includes the legal system in the UK and legislation relating to the management of health and safety at work. -
Course details
No previous health and safety knowledge is required and it is an excellent course for:
- Managers, supervisors and worker representatives.
- Those wishing to start a career in health and safety.
The NEBOSH National General Certificate provides a valuable overview and is a sound basis for further professional study, such as the NEBOSH National Diploma, Construction Certificate and Fire Certificate. It also meets the academic requirements for Technician Membership (Tech IOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Associate Membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Managements (IIRSM).
The qualification is divided into three assessed units, each of which is assessed separately. Assessment is by two written examinations, one for each of the Units NGC1 and GC2 and in Unit GC3 a work-based practical examination. All units must be completed within 5 years to achieve the full NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
NGC1 and GC2 examinations take place on twice per year with the study programmes designed to lead towards these dates. Students are awarded a unit certificate for each unit of assessment successfully achieved and an overall certificate parchment is given to students that pass all examinations. Students who are unsuccessful in one of the units may re-sit that unit. All courses include specific course manuals, stationary, lunch and refreshments throughout the day, (with the exclusion of exam day).
The study book, (published by RMS) reflects the NEBOSH syllabus requirements with supporting photographs, it also has a sample practical assessment and sample examination questions.
If required, there is an additional revision half day prior to the exams and this is made available to all students. It covers all three of the examined units of the qualification, providing an opportunity to revise and consolidate understanding. The tutorials greatly assist those that need coaching in examination technique and will increase student confidence to complete the written and practical examinations, leading to a better pass mark.
