Libraries, leisure centres and parks


Please note that all council leisure centres are closed until further notice.

When open

  • You must book.
  • Swimming pools will be operating a limited timetable, offering lane swimming and swim session initially.
  • We recommend swimmers come with their swimwear on underneath their clothing.
  • All centres offer hourly sessions (45 minutes in the pool).
  • Pool programme is valid from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 September 2020.
  • A revised programme will be available from Monday 14 September 2020.

Normal opening hours 

Please see centre pages for sessions for each pool, as access will vary across each site.


  • Adult: £3
  • Concession/junior: £1.50
  • Under 3yrs: free

Ratio: One adult to 2 under 8s. Under 8s must be accompanied with an adult aged 16yrs and over.

Arriving at the centre when open

  • A cubicle will be allocated to you.
  • We recommend swimmers come with their swimwear on underneath their clothing.
  • Your allocated cubicle will be yours until you leave.
  • The cubicle will be locked by staff when you are in the pool.
  • Please note; lockers are not available at this time – DO NOT bring valuables with you.
  • Payment cannot be taken when you arrive.
  • Reception staff will need to see proof of booking.
  • No one will be allowed in without a booking confirmation.
  • No refunds will be issued for late arrival or non-attendance.
  • You must arrive/leave your booked session on time.
  • Toilets will be made available for attendees only.
  • You will be allocated a bubble/tank and you must stay in that area.

Keeping everyone safe

  • We will take your contact number/email for Track & Trace.
  • One way systems are in place.
  • You must follow guidance and restrictions. Anyone not complying will be asked to leave immediately.

Please stay at home if you have any of these symptoms:

  • A new and continuous cough
  • A high temperature
  • A loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell.

How to book

  • Advance bookings only.
  • Call the centre (opening hours only) or book on-line.
  • One session per day/per site.
  • Payment must be at time of booking, not on arrival.
  • How to book online
  • For customer safety we are using a bubble/tanking system to allow groups to stay together.
  • Only a set number of swim tickets can be bought for each swim session.
  • You must book the correct amount of tickets from the same bubble/tank.
  • Buying from differing bubbles/tanks, will mean you and family members will be split up on arrival.

Lane swimming

  • Lanes will be 2 metres wide.
  • One way swim system will be in place.
  • Newbattle/Lasswade and the Penicuik centre will offer a slow, medium and fast lane.
  • Loanhead will offer a slow and a fast lane.
  • You cannot move from lane to lane, you must stay in one lane.

When leaving:

  • All swimmers will be called out 10 minutes before the end of their session.
  • Government guidance does not allow the use of showers before or after your swim.
  • You will return to your allocated cubicle to dry off, dress and leave through the designated one way system.

Membership fees

All direct debit memberships will continue to be frozen at £1 per month as the full programme is not on offer.


Gyms are closed.

Other activities

  • Group sessions (exercise classes) are suspended
  • Private lets are suspended
  • Health suite closed until further notice.
