Spaces for People
Temporary measures in Dalkeith, Bonnyrigg, Gorebridge, Loanhead town centres
Please note the project below is not being progressed.
The 4 towns are busy shopping towns with many pedestrians. The aim of this project is to provide more space for pedestrians.
Please note, having consulted with local groups we have decided not to go ahead at this time with any parking restrictions in the town centres that are outlined below.
- to use temporary barriers to provide more space for shoppers at the busiest pedestrian sections in the 4 towns.
- removing on-street parking in the town centres, and use off-street car parks with amended parking restrictions by temporary traffic regulation order (TTRO) to take account of the loss of parking.
- the TTRO and signs for the 5 car parks will inform users of parking limits to take account of the loss of on-street parking.
- to use barriers and ramps for town centre laybys to create wider pedestrian areas where people can enjoy town centres safely.
The cost of this project is £65,010.
