How to get tested

Mobile Testing Units can be very busy. Please book a test before you attend to avoid lengthy queues and to ensure the unit has enough tests to cope with demand.

You will also get your results more quickly.

Phone 119 if you can't book a test online.

You can access these units without an appointment, but please be aware you may have a longer wait.

Accessing the site

If arriving by car, please carefully drive up to the test site area and remain in your vehicle. You will be met by a member of the Scottish Ambulance Service team who will guide you through the testing process.

If arriving on foot, you will be met by a member of the Scottish Ambulance Service team and directed to an area with a table where you will be guided through the testing process.

Home testing kits

Lateral flow home testing kits are not available for collection at these sites. Collect home testing kits from:

You will be offered a PCR test to take at these sites. This applies whether you have symptoms or not.

These testing units have been opened because of an increase in Covid cases in Midlothian. We are encouraging people to get tested whether they have symptoms or not in a bid to help stop the spread.

Local Test Site

The Local Test Site at:

Ramsay Croft carpark
Old Edinburgh Road
Dalkeith EH22 1JD

is open from 8am - 8pm every day by appointment only. You may be directed to this site when you book a PCR test online.

If your test is positive

You must self-isolate if your PCR test is positive.

Formal contact tracing will also begin.

If the result of your home testing kit is positive, you and your household will need to self-isolate immediately. You will be asked to book a PCR test to confirm the result. You can book the PCR test online via the NHS Inform website. Again, formal contact tracing will begin.

Support to self-isolate

The National Assistance Helpline (0800 111 4000) or text phone (0800 111 4114) is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, 9am to 3.30pm Friday. The helpline can also advise people about eligibility for the Self-isolation Support Grant.
