Midlothian Food and Key Essentials Fund

This fund is now closed.

The fund was open to those in severe financial difficulty, impacted by COVID-19, who couldn't afford to buy food and other essentials. Between mid-December 2020 and end-February 2021, we supported over 4,000 households with food vouchers and fuel payments.

Why has it closed?

Following a review, the council decided to look at other ways in which we could provide support to those in the greatest need. As a result, funds were allocated by the council to support the Low Income Pandemic Payment announced by the Scottish Government earlier in 2021.

Low Income Pandemic Payment

Those in receipt of Council Tax Reduction received a one-off £130 Low Income Pandemic Payment from the Scottish Government in late October 2021. Midlothian Council decided to uplift this by £40, making it a total payment of £170.

Payments were made automatically to those eligible.
