New 'easy read' guide to help you shape our future
About the guide
Midlothian Council launched the Shaping our Future campaign earlier this year to let people have their say on the changes it needs to make in the face of continuing funding cuts, a growing population and greater demand for many of its services.
Produced primarily for people with learning difficulties, the new easy read guide uses illustrations, large text and plain English to explain how local people can get involved. It will be of help to anyone looking for a quick and easy explanation of why the council needs to reshape its services to meet future challenges.
Consulting with you
"This new leaflet clearly sets out what we are trying to do, why we are having to do it, and how everyone can have their say," said council leader, Councillor Catherine Johnstone. “With significant budget gaps forecast in the coming years, Midlothian Council needs to take some key decisions now to make sure that our services are fit for the future.
"We’ll be consulting on specific proposals over the summer and autumn, in preparation for our 2017/18 budget," added Councillor Johnstone. "In the meantime, we’re encouraging local groups and individuals to think about what we could do differently to save money, focus on priorities and transform our services."
