We asked for your views on how you could get the most out of the extra, funded (free) early learning and childcare hours from August 2020. -

Summary
From August 2020, parents and carers will get up to 1140 hours of funded (free) Early Learning and Childcare (EL&C) for their three and four-year-olds and eligible two-year-olds. That’s almost double the 600 hours currently offered.
This could be in a council nursery or at one of our funded providers including private or voluntary nurseries, childminders and playgroups.
We want to make sure as many families can take advantage of the hours, which is why we asked as many of you as possible to complete this short survey to help us meet your needs.

More about the 1140 hours
Some things will be different under 1140 hours:
- ‘Funding follows the child’ will mean that no matter where you choose to get your EL&C, the 1140 hours will be fully funded and there will be no hidden costs added.
- All funded providers will have to meet the new National Standard which will ensure they all offer the same high quality EL&C, no matter whether they are a childminder or a private, voluntary or council setting (nursery).
- The maximum length of an EL&C session will increase from 8 to 10 hours.
- This is 30 hours per week over 38 weeks (term time) or around 23 hours per week if taken over 50 weeks.
- Children will get a free meal during EL&C sessions.
- Some council settings will be open all year.
