Snowsports - Junior Ski Courses
Dates and times
For 6 and 7 year old complete beginners. Develop a good knowledge of ski equipment and learn straight running and control of speed using the plough shape. (From here you can move on to Level 2)
For complete beginners 8 years or over, or those who have completed one beginner's open class. Learn to control speed using snow plough and to use the tow safely. (From here you can move on to Level 2)
Ideal for children who can control their speed using a snowplough but cannot yet do snowplough turns. Learn various turn shapes and snow plough turn from the middle station.
For 6 – 8 year olds who have come quickly through the mini and snowplough classes. Learn to expand the variety of arcs and the rhythm of snowplough turns to improve confidence and choose speed and line appropriately.
For those able to confidently snow plough turn from the middle station, and skilled enough to adopt varying arcs and turn shape. Learn to allow their inside ski to glide in and match their outside (bottom) ski after the fall line to create a parallel position to traverse across the hill.
Develop skills to match inside ski earlier in the turn (before/at the fall line). Learn to ski in control from the second red path. Poles will be introduced.
Learn to steer skis around an arc in a basic parallel position from the middle station (first red path). Learn a hockey stop and to ski down from the top (face) in control.
Learn basic parallel turns with a pole plant from the second red path. Ski down from the top (face) in control in parallel.
For children who can already perform parallel turns with a pole plant. There is emphasis on skiing on the steep section of the slope; learn to ski down from the top in control (face) in parallel with a pole plant. Also covers short swing turns and an introduction to carving.
For those that have Level 7 and are wondering where to go next. Diversify skills with an insight into race training and freestyle. We will tailor the course to suit the group, and themes will include carving, freestyle, steeps, race techniques and short radius turns. Please note this is a non-certificated course. This course only runs during our holiday camps at selective times.
Includes a 'taster' race training session.
