Consultations - Help us redesign library services
-
Consultation
We wanted to know how we could make better use of our library buildings and services to support our local communities. -
Outcome
-
Closing date
Monday 5 June -
We're asking local residents and groups how library services and buildings can better support communities to live well locally.
Tell us what you like about your libraries and what needs to change to make better use of these community spaces.
Here are some examples of services and activities already offered in local libraries:
- Near Me service - private and confidential areas to have online video calls for NHS appointments
- Bookbug Sessions
- Craft groups
- Adult and children’s activities and events
In February, councillors set a balanced budget of in excess of £260 million and bridged a budget gap of £7.84 million.
Councillors considered a range of savings proposals, some of which were approved while others were to be reconsidered as part of the Medium Term Financial Strategy.
Among those being reconsidered are redesigning library services. The findings of the libraries conversation will help shape this redesign and will be included in a report to councillors.

How to get involved
As well as the online survey we also hosted conversations in Loanhead and Danderhall libraries, asking questions such as ‘how often do you use your library?’ and ‘what ideas do you have for the future of your local library service?’
