Who should apply?
Anyone who operates a kennel or cattery business from a purpose built premises . -
Boarding Kennels and Commercial Animal Day Care Establishments must be licensed in terms of The Animal Boarding Establishment Act 1963.

New applicant’s premises also require assessment by a Midlothian Council appointed vet. -
Timescales (usual)
Dog boarders licences expire on 31 December each year and must be renewed annually. -
Additional information
Your premises will be inspected by an Environmental Health Officer who may be accompanied by our Veterinary Officer prior to issuing your licence. They will check that the premises and your animal welfare arrangements are suitable. Licences are only granted in respect of persons operating premises which meet the appropriate standards. -
What you need to supply
Applicants must complete the Animal Boarding Establishments application form and return it to Environmental Health.
