Small increase in some Tonezone memberships
For silver membership customers, the increase is 60 pence a month. If customers pay annually for a silver membership, the rise will be just £6.
The increase was among a package of measures agreed by councillors on Tuesday to address a budget gap of more than £7 million for 2016/17.
A spokesman said: “Our gyms are competitively priced and will remain great value for money. For example, the monthly silver membership fee in Midlothian is £29.30. This gives customers full access to all our gyms and swimming pools. It cost £29.90 a month at Edinburgh Leisure to use the gym.”
Active Golden Years prices
Councillors also agreed to increase the price of the Active Golden Years membership. This gives residents aged 65 and over access to council gyms, health suites, Midlothian run classes, tennis courts, bowling greens and putting greens.
The Golden Years membership will go up from £11.20 a month to £14.56.
Currently people aged 65 and over, who are not members, pay £1 per session. This will go up to £2.00 per activity from April the 1st. Meanwhile, some casual charges for sport and leisure will also rise. Adult swimming will go up from £3.90 to £4, for example.
Free swimming in holidays
Free swimming for children up to 18 years will continue during the school holidays.
