Services update in severe weather

We will keep you informed on how snow is affecting services .

Schools and classes

All schools are open.

Bin collections and recycling centres

Due to improving conditions and progress made in clearing snow, we are now in a position to return to pick up bins missed during the severe weather. We will try and clear all bins although prevailing conditions may make it more difficult in rural areas. Many thanks for your patience.

Note: Please make sure your bin is accessible by pulling it onto the kerbside and clearing it of snow.

Leisure Centres and buildings

Leisure centres and pools will be open, including Loanhead. 

Midlothian Snowsports Centre

The centre has reopened and all classes are on this afternoon (Tuesday).


Libraries are open as normal.  

Day services for adults

Day services, including buses for our customers, are operating as normal. 


Hawthorn Family Learning Centre will reopen to service users on Tuesday onwards

Births, marriages and deaths.

Housing repairs

The housing repairs service is now operating normally.

Information re emergencies including telephone numbers

For emergencies such as homelessness and repairs: 0131 663 7211 (24/7)

Children and families and Adult Social Work services are open during office hours weekdays until 16:00 for emergencies. The numbers are 0131 271 3900 for adults and 0131 271 3413 for children and families.

After 16:00 these will be redirected to our out of hours numbers as per normal.
