Response to concerns expressed by amenity housing residents in Normandy Court

We understand some residents of our amenity housing complex at Normandy House in Dalkeith have expressed concerns about the intercom system not working. Our full response is below.

System is to be replaced as a matter of urgency

"We are very sorry for the recurring intercom fault and understand how frustrating this is to residents’ visitors who have found it difficult to get into the building. As previous repairs have not fixed the issue permanently, we’ve arranged to have the system replaced as a matter of urgency this month (June).

Security staff can give access 24/7

"In the meantime, security staff are on site 24 hours a day and will give visitors access.  We appreciate everyone’s patience as we resolve this problem as soon as possible.  Apologies again for any inconvenience caused.”

Background information

Normandy House is amenity, self-contained housing specially adapted for the individual needs of people aged 55 and over who may require support because of a disability or have restricted mobility. For example, flats may have features like raised electrical sockets, handrails etc.

Tailored packages of support

After being assessed by a social worker, support packages are put in place for tenants to make sure they can live safely and independently. For those who need it, key safes are installed to ensure secure and convenient access for care providers.  This forms part of our commitment to delivering person centred housing and support in partnership with statutory services.

Fire safety assessment

The Fire Service has been on site and assessed it for access requirements prior to any tenants moving into the building.
