60th Wedding Anniversary of Maria and Allan Roberts Celebrated

Midlothian residents, Maria and Allan Roberts, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary recently on 29 May 2025.
His Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant of Midlothian, The Reverend Doctor Valerie Cameron, and the Provost of Midlothian Council, Cllr Debbi McCall, visited the couple to present them with flowers to mark the special occasion.
Maria and Allan Roberts first met one another when they were 15 years old when they worked at Woodos, in Market Street, Edinburgh. They would go on to marry in Buccleuch Church, Dalkeith, on 29 May 1965 and enjoyed a wedding reception at the Lothian Arms Hotel.
Following the wedding, Allan Roberts went on to join the family fishmonger business in Elm Row in Edinburgh.
The couple would go on to raise 5 children together: Allan, Lindsay, Mark, Martin and David. Over the years the family has since grown to include 9 grand-children and 2 great-grandchildren.
Maria and Allan would also spend a number of years fostering babies and other young children too.
From 1991 Allan worked at Tesco until his retirement, while Maria enjoyed spells of employment at Savacentre and John Lewis.
The couple continue to have a shared love of walking. When their children were young many a Sunday was spent walking to Cousland and back. Trips to the Lake District, especially Ambleside, hold a special place for the couple.
Maria and Allan’s walking adventures have also seen them complete the West Highland Way, The Coast to Coast Trail and the hike to the top of Ben Nevis.
Family is and always has been their priority, with the couple continuing to enjoy family gatherings and holidays across the UK, plus France, Italy, and Poland.
