School Transport for the 2025/26 Academic Year

Letters to parents and carers of children entitled to school transport for the 2025/26 academic year have now been issued. These letters should arrive in the coming days.

Please refrain from contacting Midlothian Council about transport arrangements until Monday 11th August, to allow sufficient time for delivery of the letters.

If you do not receive a letter, it means that based on our Integrated Transport Policy and in accordance with our legislative obligations we do not believe your child is eligible for school transport.

Midlothian Council is committed to ensuring fair and consistent application of its school transport policy, in line with the following legislation:

  • The Education (Scotland) Act 1980

  • The Equality Act 2010

  • The Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004

Eligibility is subject to regular review. We continuously assess applications based on key criteria outlined in our policy, including:

  • A child’s individual needs and abilities

  • The distance between home and school

  • The availability of suitable walking infrastructure

For more information on eligibility and our full policy, please visit the Midlothian Council website.
